FAQ
Q: Why the change over to Moulton?
A: with numbers so high it's difficult to accomodate us all indoors. Unfortunately Caroline Chisholm doesn't offer floodlights, so we have to spread out elsewhere until we can return to play safely in daylight outside there in April. Moulton offers an excellent floodlit outdoor facility and we will run exactly the same sessions there.
Q: I haven't played netball in ages is that ok?
A: Of course. Our sessions are designed for everyone, regardless of age or ability. We ask people to turn up, work at their own level and have fun. Rules and strategies of the game will be integrated into the sessions and most people find it all comes back to them very quickly. If you haven't played at all before, no problem. Beginners are welcome too and will pick it up in no time.
Q: I can't commit to training every week - will that be a problem?
A: Not at all. We ask participants to come along as and when they can. We try to keep a flexible approach to the whole thing. You pay your subs each time you come so there is no financial commitment or obligation for you. While we do encourage regular attendance, we are very aware that people get injured or sick, have family and work commitments and can't always make it. Obviously the more regularly you attend the more fit and healthy you will become, plus your game will improve, so you'll get from it. Also it's much easier to make new friends and really enjoy sessions if you're there regularly.
Q: I'm worried I'm too old and all the youngsters might show me up. Is there an age limit? A: Not at all. Our participants are a range of all ages. Age is never questioned or mentioned! Some of us are younger ladies but the majority of our ladies are either mums returning to sport after a break, professional ladies enjoying an alternative sport to the gym, or anyone else who fancies giving netball another try. Our policy is inclusion for everyone and so no-one is pressured or judged or made to feel the need to compete with others.
Q: Do I have to wear something special?
A: No. We encourage people to wear sensible gear for working in and trainers. T shorts and joggers / shorts is fine.
Q: Will I get to play matches?
A: Yes. Every week we play full matches against each other. You can choose where you play and mix positions around with the others. Alongside Wednesdays, so far we have been able to offer participants the chance to play in tournaments & friendlies against other teams, plus showcase days. These are always of a voluntary nature for those ladies who want to play more competitively. We’re aware not everyone wants to venture into competitive netball, but some people do.
Q: Are there any space for players in your first team?
A: Spaces do become available at various points of the season, depending on the movement of players in the team. We are much more likely at this stage to take on players who show regular commitment to training and who are willing to take on umpiring as part of their team commitment. let us know if you're interested!
Q: I'd love to try mixed netball, but i don't have a partner to bring along. Can I come on my own?
A: We welcome everyone - individuals and pairs. This applies to any males or females who can't bring a partner but would like to play mixed netball. It's a great way to meet new people and really is a fun, high energy game. So whether you're male or female want to join in, get in touch, we need players!
Q: I can't make it on a Wednesday, do you offer another time? A: We are looking to start a second session on a different night, but will need enough interest to make it a going concern for us. Please email us with any preferences for when and/or where you like to see another session on offer and we'll keep you in touch with future developments - teamsmith@hotmail.co.uk thanks!
